Event understanding is the cognitive or computational process of perceiving, interpreting, and reasoning about occurrences or sequences of occurrences in the world. This research domain investigates the mechanisms by which the participants, actions, temporal and spatial relations, and causal dependencies within dynamic situations are identified, structured, and comprehended, serving as a foundational capability for intelligent systems and human cognition in tasks such as narrative comprehension, situation awareness, and predictive modeling.
